Exterior painting services in Torquay restore weathered timber windows

Professional exterior painting services in Torquay can restore ageing timber windows and improve a home’s appearance without the expense of replacing them. This recent project by Seaview Painting Services involved restoring exterior timber windows that had deteriorated significantly over time. Through extensive preparation, timber priming, window reglazing and a fresh Dover White finish, our team transformed the worn windows into a clean, attractive feature of the property.

Restoring badly weathered timber windows in Torquay

The existing timber windows were in very poor condition, with peeling paint, exposed timber and deteriorating glazing putty. Rather than simply painting over the damaged surfaces, our team undertook a thorough restoration process to address the underlying issues before applying new coatings.

The first stage involved sanding back the deteriorated paintwork and preparing the timber for treatment. Areas of exposed bare timber were carefully primed to provide a suitable foundation for the subsequent coats. This preparation was particularly important given the condition of the windows and their exposure to Torquay’s coastal weather conditions.

Detailed window preparation and reglazing

As experienced exterior painters, we understand that achieving a lasting finish requires more than applying fresh paint.

For this Torquay project, our team completed several important restoration steps, including sanding back damaged paint, priming exposed timber, renewing the glazing putty, filling imperfections and sanding the repaired surfaces smooth.

The reglazing work was an essential part of the restoration, helping restore the finish around the glass panes and improve the overall presentation of the windows. Once the repairs and preparation were completed, an undercoat was applied to create a consistent base for the finishing coats.

The windows were finished with two coats of Dover White, creating a bright, clean appearance that complements the home’s exterior. The lighter colour highlights the window frames and provides a noticeable improvement compared with the heavily weathered original finish.

The before-and-after photographs demonstrate the difference that thorough preparation and professional painting can make. Previously deteriorated timber frames now have a refreshed appearance, with neatly finished glazing and smooth painted surfaces.
